Future Online Archival Information Systems, Today

Date & Time:  Thursday, August 9, 2007 - 11:30 AM

Enterprises need to consider a unified strategy and architecture for an archival platform for their organization. Business and legal requirements impose differing needs for retention, electronic discovery and legal hold management for a variety of digital assets, from financial records, to product design files, e-Mails, document and medical images. The risk is to create stove-pipe solutions for some types of archived resources and no solution for others. This results in high management costs and an inability to perform electronic discovery or retention policy management across the enterprise. This presentation explores how an integrated archival storage solution, using multiple storage technologies, best meets the requirements for retention, authenticity, access, security, disaster recovery and cost. Furthermore, the presentation demonstrates how standards such as the Open Archival Information System (OAIS), an ISO reference model, are being applied to today’s products to define such solutions.

This presentation will cover:

  1. Key attributes and considerations for a unified archival storage solution.
  2. Applying the ISO reference model (OAIS ) to your considerations for an archival storage platform, ensuring a sound long term solution for your enterprise archive architecture.
  3. Justifying a unified archival storage solution in terms of TCO and risk management
