TRANSFORMING DATA PROTECTION FOR THE INFORMATION-CENTRIC ENTERPRISE Date & Time: Monday August 6, 2007 9 AM This tutorial focuses on how new data protection technologies can be deployed to meet the business objectives and service level requirements of organizations that rely on electronically stored information. Whether your business is subject to FRCP, HIPAA, SOX, or just more stringent corporate governance, IT departments are tasked with understanding and protecting multiple classes of data throughout their lifecycles and ensuring that costs are contained. The tutorial will describe and compare available data protection technologies architecturally and in the context of their service level characteristics, such as recovery capabilities. Common concerns, such as business continuity and reduction of business and legal risks will be addressed. Emphasis will be placed on disk-based technologies, which are quickly emerging as a vital component of the next generation data center's data protection infrastructure. Technologies covered will include disk to disk backup, virtual tape libraries, replication, snapshots, continuous data protection and de-duplication. Practical considerations of integration, complexity and manageability of disk-based protection technologies will be addressed, so that attendees can apply the lessons learned to their individual circumstances. As part of the workshop, attendees will participate in an interactive re-design of a traditional data protection environment to meet specific service level agreements by integrating several disk-based technologies in the transformation. Participants will be provided with reference materials and worksheets. Learning Objectives
